Local Fishing Report: Monday 2020-01-27

Offshore: Pretty good conditions today with winds east to northeasterly 10 to 15 knots seas below 1 metre. Tomorrow will be similar with winds east to northeasterly 10 to 15 knots and seas below 1 metre. Bhay Raynor-Johnston from Peregian Beach and a couple of buddies fished Hall's Reef yesterday morning casting 25gm metal slug lures at the boils, bagged out on spotted mackerel. Spotty mackerel in Luguna Bay and big Spanish mackerel up to 130cm off Teewah Beach. Chardon's Reef has had Spanish and spotted mackerel as well as plenty of tuna. Sunshine Reef's had grass sweetlip, venus tusk fish, moses perch, snapper, pearl perch and a large mouth nannygai. Trekka 2 skipper Mitch Bertacchini, did a nine hour trip up to Double Island Point on Friday. Conditions weren’t too bad with a light northerly wind and a small swell from the northeast. We caught nannygai, tusk fish, amberjack, squire, sweetlip, cobia, mahi mahi, grass emperor, tuna, moses perch and pearl perch.Try North reef for cobia, moses perch, gold spot cod, venus tusk fish, tuna and grass sweetlip. There's been Spanish and Spotty mackerel, yellowfin and bluefin tuna from the Gneerings. Spotty mackerel and Tuna from Old Women Island. Grass sweetlip, spotty and Spanaish mackerel from Caloundra 5 mile.

Offshore: More choppy northerly sea breezes today and tomorrow with winds northerly 15 to 20 knots easing to 10 to 15 knots in the early morning, then increasing to 15 to 20 knots in the afternoon with seas 1 to 1.5 metres. Tomorrow will be choppy to rough in the afternoon as well with winds northerly 15 to 20 knots easing to 10 to 15 knots in the early morning. Winds increasing to 15 to 20 knots in the afternoon, reaching up to 25 knots offshore and seas 1 to 1.5 metres, increasing to 1.5 to 2 metres offshore south of Maroochydore during the evening. May be better to stay closer in and in sheltered waters by Wednesday afternoon. Cougar One skipper Nat Turner and his crew fished Chardon's Reef on Sunday morning on a five hour charter. We opted to troll hard bodies and cast metal slugs most of the morning due to all the surface activity. We landed Spanish and spotted mackerel as well as plenty of tuna. We lost a few to sharks and bite-offs but it made for an exciting morning for our guests. Sunshine Reef's had grass sweetlip, venus tusk fish, moses perch, snapper, pearl perch and a large mouth nannygai. Double Island Point has had good catches of mahi mahi, large and small mouth nannygai, pearl perch, mulloway , gold spot cod and moses perch. Fishing Offshore Noosa worked Sunshine Reef and North Reef for snapper, good numbers of spotty mackerel, cobia, moses perch, gold spot cod, grass emperor and a few Spanish mackerel. Mike Duncan on his jet ski fished Sunshine Reef, he had three Spaniards in the bag (top weight 12kg) taken on whole bonito baits. Local Fishing Report: Monday 2020-01-13

Offshore: Strong Wind Warning for Monday for Sunshine Coast Waters. Conditions will be rough, so stay in sheltered waters, with winds southeasterly 15 to 25 knots, reaching up to 30 knots early in the morning and seas 1.5 to 2.5 metres. Conditions tomorrow will improve through the day with winds and seas 1 to 1.5 metres. Cougar One skipper Nat Turner ran a charter to Double Island Point on Saturday. Conditions were great with a light north easterly breeze and slight current to the south. We had to move around a bit with the fish being a little shy, but we ended up with a great mixed bag of fish including some real trophies. We caught mahi mahi, large and small mouth nannygai, pearl perch, mulloway or jewfish, gold spot cod and moses perch. Sunshine Reef had big Spanish Mackerel to 127cm. North Reef had Maori cod, gold spot cod, cobia, quality venus tusk fish, moses perch and squire. Wahoo and spanish mackerel from Jew Shoal. Deep End Fishing Charters, caught good spotty and spanish mackerel, cobia, big Mahi Mahi (Dolphin Fish), sweetlip and snapper from Caloundra 12 mile. Spotty mackerel from Caloundra 5 mile.

Local Fishing Report: Saturday 2020-01-11

Offshore: Great conditions with winds north to northeasterly 10 to 15 knots with seas below 1 metre. Conditions tomorrow will deteriorate through the day with winds east to northeasterly about 10 knots becoming southeasterly 15 to 20 knots during the late morning and afternoon. Inshore winds reaching up to 25 knots in the afternoon and seas around 1 metre, increasing to 1 to 1.5 metres south of Maroochydore during the afternoon. Sean van der Walt headed out to Sunshine Reef on his kayak on Thursday morning at first light and he was lucky enough to get a big Spanish Mackerel which went 127cm. Also kayak angler Jason Milne fished in close on Sunshine Reef Tuesday morning and picked up a solid yellowfin tuna around 6.00am on a trolled, squid skirted garfish. Cougar One skipper Nat Turner fished North Reef on Tuesday’s seven hour charter. There were a few pelagics about early with Spanish mackerel hitting trolled hard bodies and dolphin fish taking pilchard floaters. The rest of the catch was moses perch, pearl perch, grass sweetlip and venus tusk fish. Noosa Blue water Charters fished Double Island point for scarlet sea perch, venus tusk fish, snapper, pearl perch, moses perch, teraglin jewfish and gold spot cod. North Reef had Maori cod, gold spot cod, cobia, quality venus tusk fish, moses perch and squire. Wahoo and spanish mackerel from Jew Shoal. The Barwon Banks recently has had quality snapper to 92cm and good good Mahi Mahi, cobia, tusk fish, moses perch, pearl perch, Maori cod and mackerel on the reef. All fish went for pilchard floaters. North Reef for big grass sweetlip, Maori Cod, mosese perch, gold spot cod and small snapper. Deep End Fishing Charters, caught good spotty and spanish mackerel, cobia, big Mahi Mahi (Dolphin Fish), sweetlip and snapper from Caloundra 12 mile. Spotty mackerel from Caloundra 5 mile.

Maroochydore: Whiting and golden trevally around Chambers Island and Twin Waters. Grunter bream, whiting and moses perch from the Bli Bli reach. Flathead, giant trevally and mangrove jack in the creeks. Diamond scale mullet and bream from Cotton Tree.

Mooloolaba: Dart and bream off the beach at Warana. Diamond and giant trevally in the Kawana Waters canals. Flathead, mangrove jack and giant trevally in the Mooloolaba canals. Bream and cod around the moorings. Mangrove jack from the Twin bridges and rocky areas of the middle river.

Caloundra: Dart off the beach at Currimundi. Mangrove jack in the creeks and in Pelican waters canal. Whiting and some big flathead from Golden Beach. A few good crabs throughout the Passage and in the creeks. Grunter bream and flathead in Coochin Creek.

Local Fishing Report: Thursday 2020-01-09

Offshore: Great conditions with winds east to northeasterly about 10 knots increasing to 10 to 15 knots in the middle of the day with seas below 1 metre. More good conditions tomorrow with winds northeasterly 10 to 15 knots and seas below 1 metre. The Mc Gregor clan, Emily, Dave and James, launched their kayaks off the beach up past Teewah yesterday morning and got into the Spaniards, coming back in with four good fish. They gave one away but kept three so they could get a family photo at Davo's. Also kayak angler Jason Milne fished in close on Sunshine Reef Tuesday morning and picked up a solid yellowfin tuna around 6.00am on a trolled, squid skirted garfish. Noosa Blue water Charters fished Double Island point for scarlet sea perch, venus tusk fish, snapper, pearl perch, moses perch, teraglin jewfish and gold spot cod. North Reef had Maori cod, gold spot cod, cobia, quality venus tusk fish, moses perch and squire. Wahoo and spanish mackerel from Jew Shoal. The Barwon Banks recently has had quality snapper to 92cm and good good Mahi Mahi, cobia, tusk fish, moses perch, pearl perch, Maori cod and mackerel on the reef. All fish went for pilchard floaters. North Reef for big grass sweetlip, Maori Cod, mosese perch, gold spot cod and small snapper. Deep End Fishing Charters, caught good spotty and spanish mackerel, cobia, big Mahi Mahi (Dolphin Fish), sweetlip and snapper from Caloundra 12 mile. Spotty mackerel from Caloundra 5 mile.

Estuaries and Beaches

Noosa: Noosa River Fishing Safaris caught and released an 85cm flatty in the lower estuary on a recent charter. Diamond and tea leaf trevally and flathead between the river mouth and Woods Bays. Big flathead and queenfish from Tewantin Reach. A few good jacks from between the lakes. Whiting from the frying pan and Munna Point. A few quality muddies throughout the River System.
