Local Fishing Report: Tuesday 2015-02-17

Offshore

Conditions will be a bit lumpy today, so fish in sheltered waters, with southeasterly 20 to 25 knots and seas 1.5 metres, increasing to 1.5 to 2.5 metres during the morning. When the winds ease back be ready for spotty and Spanish mackerel on North Reef and nice coral trout and sweetlip on Sunshine. Snapper to 4.5kg, Spanish mackerel and sweetlip at the Gneerings and Caloundra 12 Mile. Moses perch, sweetlip, yellowtail kingfish, hussar and spotted mackerel to 5kg on Murphy’s Reef.

Estuaries

Noosa: The New Moon Phase on Thursday will have fish feeding over the next week, so be ready to go. Jew and a few tailor off the headlands and beaches. Flathead, whiting, bream and the odd tailor at the Noosa River mouth and Frying Pan. A few bream, flathead and trevally in Woods Bay. Flathead and grunter between the ferry and Lake Cooroibah, jew between the Lakes and mangrove jack around structures and snaggy deep holes throughout the river. Sand and mud crabs moving throughout the system.

Maroochydore: Flathead and trevally feeding on high tide off Chambers Island. Mangrove jack, trevally around the Cod Hole overnight. Mangrove jack, mud crabs and cod in Petrie Creek over the weekend. There have been a couple of barramundi caught in the lower river around Picnic Pt recently. Whiting in the lower river. A few full buck mud crabs have been potted around Chambers Island over night.

Kawana: Dart, whiting and Tarwhine in the gutters between Kawana and Wurtulla. Flathead, bream and whiting along the La Balsa Park reach and a few gar around the boat mooring. Mangrove jack and trevally around bridges and other structures in the creeks. Mud crabs in the upper reaches and canals and sand crabs in the lower reaches.

Caloundra: Whiting and grunter bream at the NW end of Bribie Island. Small snapper, grass sweetlip and bream off the rocky headlands. A few flathead and grunter bream near Military Jetty and the power boat club. Jacks off the boardwalks. Crabs at Roys Road, Coochin and Bells Creeks.

Conditions are still looking okay early today, with southeasterly 10 to 15 knots, increasing to 20 knots in the afternoon and evening with seas around 1 metre, increasing to 1 to 1.5 metres during the afternoon. Spotty and Spanish mackerel on North Reef and nice coral trout and sweetlip on Sunshine. Snapper to 4.5kg, Spanish mackerel and sweetlip at the Gneerings and Caloundra 12 Mile. Moses perch, sweetlip, yellowtail kingfish, hussar and spotted mackerel to 5kg on Murphy’s Reef.

Estuaries

Noosa: Flathead, whiting, bream and the odd tailor at the Noosa River mouth and Frying Pan. A few bream, flathead and big eye and golden trevally in Woods Bay. Spotty and Spanish mackerel on North Reef and nice coral trout and sweetlip on Sunshine. Snapper to 4.5kg, Spanish mackerel and sweetlip at the Gneerings and Caloundra 12 Mile. Moses perch, sweetlip, yellowtail kingfish, hussar and spotted mackerel to 5kg on Murphy’s Reef.

Estuaries

Noosa: A few big eye and golden trevally, bream, flathead and chopper tailor through the day and mangrove jack and good tailor at dawn, dusk and over night at the Noosa River mouth. A few big whiting and chopper tailor in Woods Bay. School jew and jacks between the lakes. Bream and flathead on the drift along the Noosaville reach. Sand crabs in the lower river and mud crabs moving throughout the system.

The crew aboard Top Catch Charters have been taking a few solid spotty mackerel to 5kg from Murphy's Reef earlier in the week.

Conditions easing backbut still probably a bit choppy today, better to fish the sheltered estuaries as winds are southeasterly 15 to 20 knots. Seas 1 to 1.5 metres. As conditions improve try for tusk fish and good grass sweetlip at the Blinker. Also there have been spotty and Spanish mackerel on North Reef and nice coral trout and sweetlip on Sunshine. Snapper to 4.5kg, Spanish mackerel and sweetlip at the Gneerings and Caloundra 12 Mile. Top Catch Charters fish the banks recently and caught rosy job fish, tusk fish, pearl perch, fusilier and moses perch, gold spot wrasse, Maori cod and hussar. They also took moses perch, sweetlip, yellowtail kingfish, hussar and spotted mackerel on Murphy’s Reef.

Estuaries

Noosa: Worth fishing Teewah Beach for a few chopper tailor , whiting and dart. A few big eye and golden trevally, bream, flathead and chopper tailor through the day and mangrove jack and good tailor at dawn, dusk and over night at the Noosa River mouth and in Woods Bay. Whiting in the lower river. Big mud crabs are feeding throughout the river.

Spotty and Spanish mackerel on North Reef and nice coral trout and sweetlip on Sunshine. Snapper to 4.5kg, Spanish mackerel and sweetlip at the gneerings and Caloundra 12 Mile.

Noosa: A few quality flathead , trevally and tailor at the Noosa River mouth. Trevally, whiting and flathead in Woods Bay. Some good bream and flathead along Tewantin reach. Lighter south to southwest 10 knots inshore early. Seas are around 1m, with swell at 1 to 1.5m from the southeast. Snapper to 4.5kg, Spanish mackerel and sweetlip at the gneerings yesterday.

Estuaries

Noosa: A few quality flathead , trevally and tailor at the Noosa River mouth. Trevally, whiting and flathead in Woods Bay. Bream and flathead along Tewantin reach. Bream, flathead, whiting, estuary cod and whiting in Weyba creek. The huge tides have the mud crabs moving throughout the river system.

Maroochydore: Flathead and school jew at Yinni Street. Mangrove jack, mud crabs and cod in Petrie Creek. Trevally at the cod and Twin Waters on high tide. Whiting in the lower river. Noosa: A few quality flathead and mangrove jack at the Noosa River mouth. Trevally, whiting and flathead in Woods Bay. Bream, whiting, estuary cod and trevally along the Tewantin reach. Bream, flathead, moses perch, estuary cod and whiting in Weyba creek. The huge tides have the mud crabs moving throughout the river system.

Bream, flathead, moses perch, estuary cod and whiting in Weyba creek. The huge tides have the mud crabs moving throughout the river system.

Maroochydore: Flathead and school jew at Yinni Street. Mangrove jack and cod in Petrie Creek. Trevally at the cod and Twin Waters on high tide. Whiting in the lower river. Big mud crabs are feeding throughout the river with the bucks more likely to be found in the deeper water of the middle river.

Kawana: Bream around the boat mooring. Trevally along the rock walls at the Mooloolah River mouth, whiting along the La Balsa Park reach. Mangrove jack in the upper reaches, in Parrearra Canal, Mountain Creek and the Canals. Mud crabs in the upper reaches and canals and sand crabs in the lower reaches.

Caloundra: Trevally, grunter and bream off the boardwalk, Whiting from the mouth of Bells Creek. Bream and whiting near the entrance to Currimundi Lake. and inside Caloundra Bar Grunter bream and flathead from Military Jetty. Mud crabs on the move in the creeks and into the passage.

Josh Belz 78cm Jew Released

Josh Belz from Gatton had a 15 min battle to land this nice 78cm Jew onto the bank of the Maroochy River just after the change of tide during the full moon Wednesday night. Josh released the fish after a quick picture.
