Local Fishing Report: Wednesday 2013-10-23

Offshore

Northerly 20 to 25 knots turning west to northwesterly 10 to 15 knots during the day, a southerly change 15 to 25 knots entering the far south late evening. So, conditions will pretty choppy and probably be unworkable early, however check the conditions later in the day, as there may be a window of opportunity ahead of the southerly change!

Estuarys

Noosa: Trevally and flathead from the river mouth and in Noosa Waters. Weyba creek is producing whiting a few quality flathead and the Munna Pt Bridge has a few school jew and trevally. Try for jack and mud crabs between the lakes and for queenfish and trevally at the back of the Sound.

Maroochydore: Bream on the bottom of the tide around Chambers island. Mangrove jack taken in Coolum Creek and Dunithan Rock. Trevally to 55cm, flathead and grunter from Petrie Creek. Grunter bream around the 40cm from Bli Bli.

Kawana: Whiting and grunter in the Mountain Creek. Mangrove jack in the upper Mooloolah River and in Parrearra Channel. Jacks, trevally and cod from McKenzies bridge.

Caloundra: Jacks and whiting in Currimundi Lake. Plenty of flathead in the northern end of the passage. Some good whiting on most of the banks in the top end of the passage. Jacks in Bells and Coochin Creek and Pelican Waters.

Local Fishing Report: Tuesday 2013-10-22

Offshore

Northeasterly 10 to 15 knots early then tending northerly 15 to 25 knots. So conditions will become pretty choppy and probably unworkable in the afternoon and again on Thursday. There have been school mackerel from Currimundi Reef and Bray's Rock and there's been small black marlin on the Caloundra 8 and 10 Mile Reefs. There have been catches of snapper, cobia and a few pearlies on North reef and Caloundra 12mile, also jew, cobia and snapper on the Gneerings.

Noosa: Flathead to 65cm taken in Noosa Waters. Trevally and flathead from the river mouth. Weyba creek is producing whiting a few quality flathead and the Munna Pt Bridge has a few school jew and trevally. Try for jack and mud crabs between the lakes and for queenfish and trevally at the back of the Sound.

Northeasterly 10 to 15 knots. School mackerel from Currimundi Reef and Bray's Rock. There have been catches of snapper, cobia and a few pearlies on North reef and Caloundra 12mile, also jew, cobia and snapper on the Gneerings.

Local Fishing Report: Saturday 2013-10-19

Offshore

East to southeasterly about 10 knots increasing to 10 to 15 knots before dawn. So, be ready to go early if conditions look good! Earlier in the week, there was a 15kg wahoo, a 20kg GT and a nice tuna taken at the Gneerings. There have been catches of snapper and a few pearlies on North reef and Caloundra 12mile, also jew, cobia and snapper on the Gneerings.

Estuarys

Noosa: Golden trevally and flathead from the river mouth. Weyba creek is producing whiting to 35cm a few quality flathead and the Munna Pt Bridge has produced a few school jew and trevally. Try for jack along with school jew and mud crabs between the lakes and for queenfish and trevally at the back of the Sound.

Maroochydore: Mangrove jack and trevally in the Maroochy Waters Canals. Trevally in the cod hole. Whiting to 40cm on the change of the tide around Chambers Island. Flathead from Chambers Island, near Minti Street and the Bli Bli Islands. Put the pots in the upper river for a few muddies. Mangrove jacks in the middle reaches and up the creeks.

Kawana: Good whiting and flathead taken around McKenzie's Bridge off the sand and mud banks in the Mountain Creek and Currimundi Lake areas. Mangrove jack in the upper Mooloolah River and in Parrearra Channel the biggest went 2.2kg. Try for trevally and Tarpon in the canals.

Caloundra: Plenty of flathead in the northern end of the passage. Some big whiting on most of the banks between the Boardwalk and Coochin Creek. Quailty queenfish off the Board Walk. Jacks in Bells and Coochin Creek and Pelican Waters.

Zac McIntyre 15kg Wahoo 20kg GT Big Tuna

Zac McIntyre fished the Gneerings this week with a few quality pelagic species like this wahoo taken on a Pakula Hybrid Destroyer lure.
