2013 Fishing Reports

Local Fishing Report: Monday 2013-10-28

Offshore

Northerly 15 to 20 knots increasing to 20 to 25 knots in the morning, and to 25 to 30 knots from early afternoon. So it looks like a good day to stay in the sheltered estuaries and chase a few flathead or mangrove jack.

Estuary's

Noosa: Bream, flathead and whiting around the Noosa River mouth, along with trevally in Woods Bay and Weyba Creek and flathead along the Tewantin reach. It' s worth a try for jew and mangrove jack and mud crabs between Lakes Cooroibah and Cootharaba. A few queenfish and trevally at the back of the Sound.

Maroochydore: A few big flathead being caught in the lower river. A few good size whiting in the lower river at the moment. Mangrove jack taken in the upper river in places like, Coolum Creek and Dunithan Rock. Plenty of flathead ranging from 45cm to over sized released fish between the river mouth and Bli Bli.

Kawana: There's been a few dart, whiting, bream and tarwhine along the beaches, bream in the lower reaches of the Mooloolah River, mangrove jack in the canals and mud crabs in the deep holes in the upper reaches.

Caloundra: Flathead on live bait and a few bream at night along the Boardwalk. Jacks in Currimundi Lake. Plenty of average flathead in the northern end of the passage. Some good whiting on the banks at Happy Valley. Jacks in Bells and Coochin Creek and Pelican Waters.

John Bartosek does it again with a 2.6kg Mangrove Jack taken in the upper Maroochy River, fishing overnight on the start or the run in tide.

Local Fishing Report: Sunday 2013-10-27

Offshore

With east to northeasterly 10 to 15 knots decreasing to about 10 knots before dawn then tending north to northeasterly 15 to 20 knots in the middle of the day, so it could be worth heading out early. Tomorrow will most likely be a day to stay in the estuaries, with a northerly 20 to 30 knots turning northwesterly 20 to 25 knots during the evening. There have been a few school mackerel on the close in reefs like the Gneerings and at the NW Fairway Buoy and Raper Shoal. Tuskfish, maori cod and snapper from the 12 mile and northern bluefin tuna and cod on North Reef.

The crews on Top Catch Charters fished Caloundra 12 Mile for some good reefies including this 6kg spangled emperor!

Local Fishing Report: Saturday 2013-10-26

Offshore

With winds today being variable about 10 knots becoming easterly 10 to 15 knots in the late afternoon, it should be worth heading out. There have been reports of school mackerel on the close in reefs like the Gneerings and at the NW Fairway Buoy and Raper Shoal. Tuskfish, maori cod and snapper from the 12 mile. Snapper, pearl perch, amberjack, tuskfish and hussar on the Barwon Banks and northern bluefin tuna and cod on North Reef.

Local Fishing Report: Friday 2013-10-25

Offshore

With winds blowing East to southeasterly 15 to 20 knots this morning, turning northeasterly 10 to 15 knots in the late afternoon and seas decreasing to 1m during the day, it will be worth heading out this afternoon or any time on Sunday. Report before the bad weather included school mackerel on the close in reefs south of Gneerings. Red throat, snapper and sweetlip from Sunshine Reef. Cobia and sweetlip from Murphy's and a few good snapper from the 12 mile.

Estuarys

Noosa: Trevally and flathead from the river mouth and in Noosa Waters. Weyba creek is producing whiting a few quality flathead and the Munna Pt Bridge has a few school jew and trevally. Try for jack and mud crabs between the lakes and for queenfish and trevally at the back of the Sound.

Maroochydore: Bream on the bottom of the tide around Chambers island. Mangrove jack taken in Coolum Creek and Dunithan Rock. Plenty of flathead ranging from 45cm to over sized released fish between Chambers Island and Bli Bli on Grunter bream around the 40cm from Bli Bli.

Kawana: Whiting and flathead along La Balsa basin. Whiting and grunter in the Mountain Creek. Mangrove jack in the upper Mooloolah River and in Parrearra Channel. Jacks, trevally and cod from McKenzies bridge. Crabs in the upper river.

Caloundra: Jacks and whiting in Currimundi Lake. Bream and queenfish off the boardwalk. Plenty of flathead in the northern end of the passage. Some good whiting on most of the banks in the top end of the passage. Jacks in Bells and Coochin Creek and Pelican Waters.

Local Fishing Report: Thursday 2013-10-24

Offshore

Southeast to southwesterly 15 to 25 knots becoming southeasterly 20 to 30 knots before dawn then decreasing to 15 to 25 knots in the middle of the day.
So, conditions will pretty choppy and probably be unworkable for small vessels, however check the conditions tomorrow, with east to southeasterly 10 to 15 knots turning northeasterly during the afternoon!

Estuarys
