Local Fishing Report: Thursday 2020-02-13

Offshore: Conditions will deteriorate through the day and into the evening with winds north to northeasterly 10 to 15 knots, tending variable below 10 knots inshore in the early morning. Winds turning east to northeasterly 10 to 15 knots in the middle of the day and reaching up to 20 knots offshore in the evening, seas around 1 metre but with a big swell easterly 2 to 3 metres. The BOM has a Caution posted for today stating: Large and powerful surf conditions are expected to be hazardous for coastal activities such as crossing bars by boat and rock fishing. Looking similar tomorrow with big swells and with winds east to southeasterly 10 to 15 knots tending southerly 15 to 20 knots during the morning, reaching up to 25 knots offshore. Winds then turning east to northeasterly 15 to 20 knots in the evening, with seas below 1 metre, increasing to 1 to 2 metres offshore during the morning and big swells at east to southeasterly 2 to 3 metres inshore, increasing to 2.5 to 4 metres offshore. Best to stay in sheltered waters for next few days and when conditions improve it will be worth fishing along the the dirty water line from the estuaries water meets the clean ocean waters, where the fish could be feeding. Spanish mackerel, yellowfin tuna, sweetlip and maori cod from Sunshine Reef. Hall's Reefs have been producing spotty and spanish mackerel. Spanish mackerel from Currimundi Reef. Spotty and spanish mackerel from Coolum. A few good reef fish including the odd coral trout, snapper and sweetlip along with spotty and Spanish mackerel from the Gneerings, Caloundra 5 and 12 mile. Small snapper and grass sweetlip around Brays Rock.

Estuaries and Beaches

Noosa: Mangrove jack and flathead from Tewantin. Trevally and mangrove jack in Woods Bays. A few good jacks and grunter bream from between the lakes and upper river system. Whiting throughout the lower river. Mud crabs on the move throughout the river.

Maroochydore: The mud crabs on the move throughout the coasts rivers, creeks and canals. Trevally, plenty of bream and a few good whiting feeding in the lower river around Chambers Island and Twin Waters. A few Mangrove jack in the structured/snaggy areas throughout the river.

Mooloolaba: Whiting and grunter bream in Mountain creek and Kawana Canals. Try for mangrove jack around the bridges and jetties of the lower river. Bream from the moorings and rock wall. Mud crabs in the canals and moving .

Caloundra: Bream, Mangrove jack and trevally in Pelican Waters. Flathead and bream inside the bar. Flathead form the mouth of Bells Creek. Mud crabs throughout the passage. Quality whiting on the banks out from Golden Beach.
