Local Fishing Report: Tuesday 2018-08-07


Choppy to rough conditions away from the immediate coast early today with winds west to northwesterly 15 to 20 knots shifting southwesterly around dawn and reaching up to 25 knots with the wind shift. Winds decreasing to 10 to 15 knots in the afternoon with seas 1 to 2 metres, decreasing to 1 to 1.5 metres during the afternoon. Conditions settle more tomorrow during the morning with winds southwesterly 15 to 20 knots becoming variable about 10 knots during the morning and seas 1 to 1.5 metres, decreasing below 1 metre during the morning. As conditions settle down tomorrow be ready to go  like Benny Forgan who caught good snapper with one going 70cm (10lb) on soft plastics at the Gneerings real early Sunday morning.The Hards have had moses perch, hussar, rosy jobfish, coral bream, good tuskies, gold spot wrasse, pearl perch, trag jew and snapper. There have been some good quality snapper and spanish mackerel as well as sweetlip, cobia and the odd coral trout caught close inshore off Sunshine Beach this week. North Reef's had good snapper, moses perch, tusk fish, pearl perch and cobia. Grass sweetlip, cobia, cod, quality snapper and tusk fish from the Barwon Banks. Snapper, cobia, pearl perch, tusk fish from Caloundra 12 mile. Snapper, grass sweetlp, moses perch and parrot from Murphy's.. Big grass sweetlip and nice keeper snapper around Old Women Island. Snapper and Sweetlip around Brays Rock.

Estuaries and Beaches

Noosa: Tailor, a few whiting and bream and dart along Teewah Beach. Try for luderick in the lower river. Some good Whiting, bream and plenty of good quality flathead from throughout the river. Golden trevally along the Tewantin Reach and in Noosa Sound. Bream around the bridges and rocky areas of the lower river.

Maroochydore: Try for tailor and bream from the sand bags and north shore.Try for some better quality whiting around Chambers Island Plenty of bream particularly over night from the motorway bridge pylons and along Oyster bank road. Flathead and bream from around Goat and Channel Islands.

Mooloolaba: Try for tailor along Kawana and Wurtulla Beach at dawn and dusk. A few good tailor and golden trevally in the lower river. Bream around McKenzies Bridge, the rock walls and the Kawana Boat Ramp. Average size grass sweetlip and big bream off the rocks at Point Cartwright. Gar in the La Balsa sand basin.

Caloundra: Whiting, bream and tailor along the beach between Currimundi and Moffat heads. Bream and tailor from Shelly Beach. Bream, tailor and flathead off the boardwalk. Bream, flathead and whiting along Golden beach. Trevally, cod, the odd tailor and bream in Pelican Waters Canal.

Ben snapper 70cm soft plastics gneerings

My mate Benny Forgan caught some good snapper with one going 70cm (10lb) on soft plastics at the Gneerings, real early Sunday morning.
