Local Fishing Report: Saturday 2018-11-03


Offshore: More choppy northerly's today but may be workable inshore in the morning, with winds northerly 15 to 20 knots and seas around 1 metre, increasing to 1 to 1.5 metres during the afternoon. Similar choppy to rough conditions tomorrow, with hot north to northwesterly winds 15 to 20 knots and seas increasing further 1 to 1.5 metres, increasing to 1 to 2 metres offshore. When conditions are okay again keep in mind there have been some good catches of snapper, coral trout, spangled emperor and yellow tail kingfish from Sunshine Reef. Snapper, and some good quality pelagic fish on the move right along the coast, like, cobia, yellow tail kingfish, long tail tuna and some good mackerel as well as tusk fish from the Gneerings and Caloundra Wide. Deep End Charters out of Mooloolaba got onto some quality Cobia on the weekend, there was plenty more out there as we all experienced screaming reels, also good snapper, Coronation Trout, Sweetlip, Red throat, Tuskfish, Wrasse, Cod, Pearl Perch, Moses Perch, Trevally and hussar from the Barwon Banks.  Double Island Point has consistently had good catches, there's been trout, red emperor, snapper, pearl perch, hussar, tuskfish, big cod and sweetlip.

Estuaries and Beaches

Noosa: Big flathead and tailor from the river mouth. Flathead, bream, grunter and a few jew in the ski runs. Flathead, trevally, jacks and whiting in Woods Bays. Mud crabs pretty well throughout all the systems and in Noosa Waters Canal.

Maroochydore: Bream to 35cm off Chambers Island. Trevally and school jew up to 65cm released around the motorway bridge pylons. Good flathead in the 42/50 cm to 60 cm range throughout the river. Mangrove jack to 50cmand trevally in Petrie Creek. Whiting feeding in the middle and lower river. Tailor and trevally out from the jet ski run. A couple of good buck mud crabs caught around Bli Bli over the weekend.

Mooloolaba: Bream a few gar and good golden trevally from the boat moorings. Bream and grass sweetlip from the Kawana Rock wall. Whiting and flathead from La Balsa Sand basin. Cod, flathead and whiting from the Twin Bridges. Mud crabs in the canals and middle river.

Caloundra: The Whiting are in good number south of Bells Creek. Flathead, whiting and bream from Golden Beach. Trevally and mangrove jack in Pelican Waters and in the creeks that flow into the Passage. Mud crabs in Coochin Creek.
