Local Fishing Report: Saturday 2018-09-08


There should be some good fish feeding activity with the fish coming on the bite, as we head into Mondays New Moon Phase. Looking like a reasonable spring day today and weekend ahead with warm and mostly sunny weather with winds light to moderate! Today should be reasonable conditions early in the day with a fresh afternoon sea breeze with winds north to northwesterly 15 to 20 knots. Winds inshore 10 to 15 knots, tending north to northeasterly and reaching up to 20 knots at times in the afternoon with seas around 1 metre, increasing to 1 to 1.5 metres offshore. Tomorrow conditions should be okay early particularly close inshore but choppy out wide with west to northwesterly 15 to 20 knots shifting southeasterly during the day with seas 1 to 1.5 metres. Trekka 2 fished North Reef and caught pearl perch, moses perch, snapper, teraglin jewfish and mulloway. Snapper, long tail tuna, cobia, pearl perch, tusk fish from the Gneerings and Caloundra 12 mile. Snapper, pearl perch, cobia, mulloway and tusk fish from the Barwon Banks. Snapper, grass sweetlp, moses perch and parrot from Murphy's. Snapper and good sweetlip close in off Coolum around Old Women Island. Snapper and Sweetlip around Brays Rock. The crews on Rainbow Escape Charters had some amazing catches this week taking several big knobby snapper, gold spot cod, several big and quality amberjack and some good red emperor Northeast of Double Island Point and out wide on there other local reefs.

Estuaries and Beaches

Noosa: Noosa River Fishing Safaris, reported Good flathead and bream around the river mouth and some nice diamond and golden trevally at the Woods Bays. Noosaville has plenty of whiting and flathead with the bream around the structures. Tewantin and Cooroibah had plenty of fish on the bite We caught flathead, bream, a few estuary cod and small mangrove jack. and a 67cm diamond trevally in Noosaville which was released it after a photo.

Maroochydore: Try for tailor bream and mulloway from the river mouth the odd golden trevally at the Cod Hole and grunter bream and in the middle teaches. Quality flathead around the Bli Bli area and in the mouth of Eudlo Creek. Mangrove jack and trevally in Petrie Creek. Quality whiting in the lower river.

Mooloolaba: Trevally and bream around Minyama Island. Bream, the odd tailor and golden trevally from the boat moorings. Whiting from the flats above McKenzies Bridge. Bream and mangrove jack at night around McKenzies Bridge. Bream and tailor off the rocks at Point Cartwright.

Caloundra: Whiting , bream and still a few tailor in the gutters along the beaches from the rocky headlandand tip of Bribie. Whiting and flathead from Currimundi Creek. Flathead and whiting along Golden Beach. Flathead from the skids. Jacks are showing up so its worth trying the snaggy or structured areas for mangrove jack throughout the creeks and Passage.

Geoff Grenfell and his daughter Aleisha had a fantastic day fishing at Bli Bli where caught 8 fish released 6 keepers as they are going home to Victoria tomorrow.
