Local Fishing Report: Monday 2018-03-19


Conditions okay today particularly this morning, with an easterly 10 to 15 knots. Winds tending southerly below 10 knots inshore in the morning with seas around 1 metre.  Similar tomorrow with it getting choppy late morning, with winds easterly 10 to 15 knots turning southeasterly 15 to 20 knots during the morning and seas rising to around 1 metre, increasing to 1 to 2 metres during the afternoon or evening. A few tuna feeding along the coast. North Reef for moses perch, tusk fish, Maori cod, grass sweetlip and gold spot cod. Sunshine for good mixed bag including snapper, sweetlip, moses perch, cobia, cod and also lots of coral trout as well as Spanish mackerel, long tail tuna and maori cod. Spotty and Spanish mackerel and plenty of tuna and long tail tuna from the Blinker. Cobia, tuna, snapper and grass sweetlip from Caloundra 12mile.

Estuaries and Beaches

Noosa: Lewis Sipp was fishing the lower estuary when a 66cm flathead smashed his mullet strip bait and took off hard but was eventually reeled in by this excited young angler. See, Whiting, trevally and jack in the lower river feeding under the cover of the dirty water. A 42cm bream taken around Noosaville Boat Ramp. Flathead and grunter from along Tewantin stretch. Target mud crabs throughout river.

Maroochydore: Still a few good mud crabs throughout but predominantly in the middle reaches of the river. Bream, grunter, whiting and flathead the motorway bridge and Twin Waters. Golden Trevally whiting and flathead from Cotton Tree. School jew and golden Trevally in the cod hole on the top of the tide.

Mooloolaba: Bream around the rocks walls, pontoons and Jetties between the Mouth and Minyama Island. Cod, trevally and flathead from La Balsa Basin. Grunter bream from McKenzies Bridge area and mud crabs throughout the river.

Caloundra: Today New Moon phase will hav the fish on the bite and the good weather will be good for chasing a few whiting, flathead and bream in Currimundi Lake. Whiting, bream, grunter and flathead between the bar and Golden Beach. Muddies are moving throughout the passage.
