Extended Fishing Report: Friday 2018-05-25


Today (Friday)conditions will be a bit choppy may be even rough by the afternoon so check the forecast with winds southeasterly 15 to 20 knots and seas 1 to 1.5 metres, increasing to 1.5 to 2 metres during the afternoon.Tomorrow and Sunday similar but with winds increasing to 20 to 25 knots from the east south east. So may be better to stay and fish in sheltered waters and when conditions improve, late Monday and particularly on Tuesday be ready to go! So,with that in mind, Wild Thing 2 crews fished Chardons Reef early in the week where they caught moses perch, grass sweetlip, Maori cod, venus tusk fish, snapper, gold spot estuary cod and pearl perch." Recently, Ben Robertson fished Double Island Point where he landed a 28.5kg Spanish mackerel on a pilchard floater, also at Double Island Point there's been tusk fish, pearl perch, snapper, gold spot cod, moses perch, red emperor, trevally and Maori cod. Sunshine and North Reef have had coral trout to 6.0kg, also had good Spanish mackerel and yellow tail kingfish, snapper and grass sweetlip also a few cobia, quality Spanish mackerel,off Mooloolaba, Coolum and Caloundra. Caloundra 12 Mile has had good snapper and cobia showing up. Out on the reefs off Double Island catches of snapper, yellowfin tuna, Spanish mackerel, pearlies, jew cobia, red emperor, scarlet sea perch, hussar and gold spot wrasse and mahi mahi. Trout, Spanish mackerel, cod, grass sweetlip, cobia and tusk fish from the Barwon Banks. Reefs off the Wide Bay Bar and Double Island there have been, Snapper, Spanish mackerel, pearlies, jew, cobia, red and spangled emperor, gold spot wrasse and a few mahi mahi.

Out and around Hervey Bay: There's still plenty of good school mackeral and long tail tuna in the channel from Moon Pt to River Heads. Good catches of tuna around Big and Little Woody Islands. Also a few sand crabs to be taken around Burrum Heads and Woodgate. There have been a few good sweetlip, cod and coral trout on the local reefs from Kingfisher Bay to Moon Point. Longtail tuna and a few spotty mackerel have been taken op the top in Platypus Bay. There have been few coral trout, grassy sweetlip, blackall, good cod, tusk fish, and mackerel on the inshore reefs. Great Sandy Strait, is still producing, Barramundi, and threadfin salmon around the mouth of the Mary River including whiting, flathead and plenty of bream showing up throughout. Barramundi and threadfin salmon in the lower Mary and Susan River. There’s queenfish, golden trevally and giant trevally off Urangan. Estuaries and Beaches

Fraser Island: Target dart, whiting, bream, chopper tailor and quality jew moving through the gutters at night along the eastern beach. On the western side of Fraser island there’s been plenty of whiting and catches of flathead and trevally, while in the creeks and the flats there’s a few good grunter bream, still .

Rainbow Beach: The jew have been moving through the gutters particularly at night and try for chopper tailor at dawn and dusk and go for flathead, dart, whiting in the gutters through the day at Rainbow Beach, Double Island Point and Teewah Beach. A few good whiting and dart up the beach and around Inskip Point. Tin Can Bay is fishing well for a few chopper tailor whiting, bream, flathead, trevally and mangrove jack in the snaggy areas in the creeks and still getting a few good muddies.

Local Dams and Rivers: Borumba Dam has been on fire lately for quality Bass. Generally there are quality bass, saratoga and yellowbelly feeding in the Dams at present. Also there has been excellent catches of Barramundi in Lake Monduran. Borumba Dam has bass and saratoga still hitting lures and fly particully on Jackall tn60 lures. Plenty of quality bass and golden perch on trolled lures from the junctions in Boondooma Dam. Noosa: Flathead around Munna Pt and good golden trevally around the sand bags. Chopper tailor, whiting a few good bream and trevally from the River mouth and lower river. A few trevally to 61cm and tailor in and around Woods Bay. Plenty of bream starting to feed throughout the river.

Maroochydore: Trevally and plenty of jew with plenty of juveniles with some fish to 80cm and one on a live bait went 1.1m over the weekend in the Cod Hole. Flathead around Chambers Island and Picnic Point. Bream and nice golden trevally from the river mouth. Jew taken off the rocks and dart along the beaches at Yaroomba. Still getting good mud crabs throughout the river.

Mooloolaba: Try for jew, bream and a few tailor off Point Cartwright at dawn and dusk or overnight. Good size bream around the rocks walls and Jetties in the lower river. Trevally and flathead from La Balsa Basin. Mud crabs and some quality flathead in the creeks and canals.

Caloundra: The luderick will be feeding soon around all the structures and ream moving along the coast and into the passage and the odd chopper tailor feeding around the bar and throughout the passage. Whiting, bream and flathead along the golden beach stretch. Still muddies in the creeks.
