Local Fishing Report: Wednesday 2016-09-28


Wind will be northwest to southwesterly 10 to 15 knots tending east to southeasterly in the middle of the day then tending east to northeasterly in the evening, with seas around the 1 metre mark. Yellowtail king fish, trevally and snapper from the Blinker. Spanish mackerel on trolled slimy mackerel between Old Women Island and the Blinker.  At Big Hall's reef where there’s  been snapper in the 2kg to 2.5kg range and a 17kg cobia taken. On Sunshine Reef, there’s coral trout, snapper, tusk fish, pearl perch and grass sweetlip. A few spotty mackerel and mac tuna off Coolum. Spotty and Spanish mackerel from Caloundra 5 mile reef.


Noosa: Dart, whiting, bream and tarwhine along the beach gutters from Teewah to freshwater. There is good quality flathead, a few trevally, the odd tailor at night and bream at the Noosa River mouth. Bream, flathead and trevally in the Woods Bays. Flathead and bream in Weyba Creek. Grunter, mangrove jack and mud crabs along the Tewantin stretch. Whiting and flathead at the mouth of lake Cooroibah.

Maroochydore: Tailor to 70cm from the river mouth over night. Bream and jew up to 102cm around the Cod Hole. Flathead to 70cm from Chambers Island and 88cm from Picnic Point. Quality mangrove jack and school jew in the middle and upper river. Whiting from muller park and twin waters. Mud crabs in the deeper holes of the middle river.

Kawana: Whiting and dart from Wurtulla. Grass sweetlip and bream off Point Cartwright. A few golden trevally and a few GT’s in the Kawana Canals. Bream, gar and trevally around the boat moorings and rock walls. Flathead and whiting in the Basin. and bream around the trawler moorings.

Caloundra: Flathead inside the bar on plastics. Whiting from Golden Beach and the mouth of Bells Creek. Trevally and bream off the boardwalk. Jew and bigger bream at night in the deeper hole of the northern passage. Mud crabs in Coochin Creek and up the canals. Trevally and bream in Pelican Waters canal.

88cm Dusky Released

Chris Lever caught and released this 88cm dusky flathead in his kayak out from Picnic Point Monday morning on a Zman StreakZ soft plastic.
