Local Fishing Report: Tuesday 2016-10-18

Offshore

Much better conditions today than yesterday with northwest to southwesterly 10 to 15 knots, reaching up to 20 knots offshore early in the morning. Winds tending southeast to southwesterly before dawn then becoming east to northeasterly about 10 knots in the early afternoon and seas1 to 1.5 metres, decreasing below 1 metre during the morning. Great conditions for tomorrow with variable about 10 knots becoming northeast to southeasterly 10 to 15 knots during the day then tending northeasterly during the afternoon. Chardon's for pearl perch, tuskies, moses, trag, lippers, Maoris, goldspot cod and an estimated 10kg scarlet sea perch. There have been snapper and grassy sweetlip at Murphys and Currimundi Reefs and yellowtail king at the Inner Gneerings and Mooloolaba Blinker. Snapper, tusk fish, pearl perch and cobia from the Hards. On Sunshine Reef, there’s coral trout, squire, grass sweetlip and pearl perch. Mackerel. Coral trout, sweetlip and mac tuna from Coolum Reef.

Estuaries

Noosa: There a few good whiting feeding in the lower river. Good trevally and mulloway on top of the tide at the Noosa River mouth. Bream in the deep holes around the Frying Pan and Tewantin Marina, Flathead, moses perch and Jacks in Weyba Creek. Jack and mud crabs between Tewantin and Lake Cooroibah.

Maroochydore: Heaps of herring baitfish in the lower river. Flathead in Petrie and Eudlo Creeks, giant and golden trevally at the Cod Hole area. Jack in the upper reaches and a few whiting from Bli Bli, the mouth of Eudlo Creek and the lower river. Mud crabs in the upper reaches.

Kawana: Dart and whiting along Kawana Beach, trevally at dawn and dusk along the rock walls at the Mooloolah River. Jack, flathead and Cod in Parrearra Channel and around the twin bridge. Bream, Gar and trevally around the boat moorings. Bream and flathead in the Basin and mud crabs in the deep holes in the canals

Caloundra: Flathead in the Blue Hole and at the entrance to Coochin Creek. Whiting opposite Bells Creek and along Golden Beach. Jew, mangrove jack showing up in the creeks and bigger bream at night in the deeper holes of the northern passage. Mud crabs in Coochin Creek and up the canals.

Heath Norman Seventeen Seventy Sheephead Parrotfish

Heath Norman fished at Seventeen Seventy for a Steephead Parrotfish (drab form may include both males and females, but the bright form are always males and sex change is common, minimum size 25 cm) as well as a nice coral trout.
