Local Fishing Report: Saturday 2016-10-01

Offshore

Wind will be west to southwesterly 10 to 15 knots, reaching up to 20 knots offshore early in the morning. Wind shifting north to northeasterly around midday then tending west to northwesterly in the evening, with seas around 1 to 1.5 metres. Yellowtail king fish, trevally and snapper from the Blinker. Spanish mackerel on trolled slimy mackerel between Old Women Island and the Blinker.  At Big Hall's reef where there’s been snapper in the 2kg to 2.5kg range and a 17kg cobia taken. On Sunshine Reef, there’s coral trout, squire, grass sweetlip and pearl perch. A few spotty mackerel and mac tuna off Coolum, with bigger numbers off the northern end of Bribie.

Estuaries

Noosa: Dart, whiting, bream and tarwhine along the beach gutters from Teewah to freshwater. Whiting in the frying pan area. Flathead on live baits and plastics in the lower river with bream and trevally at the river mouth. Bream, flathead and good size Golden Trevally caught around Woods Bays. Flathead, Moses Perch and Jacks in Weyba Creek. Grunter, mangrove jack and mud crabs along the Tewantin stretch, with sand crabs being caught in the lower river. Whiting and flathead at the mouth of lake Cooroibah and along the Noosaville stretch.

Maroochydore: Tailor up to 70cm from the river mouth over night. Bream, tailor, trevally and jew around the Cod Hole at dawn and dusk. Flathead to 70cm from Chambers Island and 88cm from Picnic Point. Flathead and trevally in Petrie Creek. Whiting from muller park, as well chambers Island and picnic point early in the morning. Mud crabs in the deeper holes of the middle river with a few sand crabs being caught towards Cotton Tree.

Kawana: Jacks and Cod in Parrearra Channel and under the twin bridges. Mangrove jack around bridge structure and boat moorings in the upper river. A few golden trevally and sizeable GT’s in the Kawana Canals around the pontoons. Bream, Gar and Trevally around the boat moorings and rock walls. Flathead and whiting in the Basin.

Caloundra: Flathead in the blue hole and at the entrance to Coochin Creek. Whiting on the banks between Bullock Beach and Bells Creek. Trevally and bream off the boardwalk. Jew and bigger bream at night in the deeper hole of the northern passage. Mud crabs in Coochin Creek and up the canals. Bream, Mangrove Jack and Cod all of size caught in the Pelican Waters canal.
