Local Fishing Report: Monday 2016-10-03

Offshore

Choppy conditions today with wind north to northwesterly 15 to 20 knots, reaching up to 25 knots at times offshore from the late morning. Winds tending westerly in the late evening with seas1 to 1.5 metres, increasing to 1 to 2 metres during the morning with seas 1 to 1.5 metres, increasing to 1 to 2 metres during the morning. Snapper and grassy sweetlip at Murphys and Currimundi Reefs and yellowtail king at the Inner Gneerings and Mooloolaba Blinker.


Snapper, tusk fish and pig fish from the middle banks. Snapper, tusk fish, pearl perch and cobia from the Hards. Snapper, mackerel and grass sweetlip from Currimundi. On Sunshine Reef, there’s coral trout, squire, grass sweetlip and pearl perch. Mackerel. Coral trout, sweetlip and mac tuna from Coolum Reef.

Estuaries

Noosa: Dart, whiting, bream and tarwhine along the beach gutters from Teewah to freshwater. Whiting in the frying pan area. Flathead on live baits and plastics in the lower river with bream and trevally at the river mouth. Bream, flathead and good size golden trevally in Woods Bays. Flathead, Moses Perch and Jacks in Weyba Creek. Mangrove jack and mud crabs along the Tewantin stretch, with sand crabs being caught in the lower river.

Maroochydore: Elbow slapper whiting and flathead averaging 55cm in Maroochy Waters Canal. A 78cm barramundi was caught near the Bli Bli Bridge last week. Flathead from Chambers Island and Picnic Point. Flathead and trevally in Petrie Creek. Whiting from Muller park, as well chambers Island and picnic point early in the morning. Mud crabs in the deeper holes of the middle river with a few sand crabs being caught towards Cotton Tree.

Kawana: Dart and whiting along the Warana stretch. Jacks and Cod in Parrearra Channel and under the twin bridges. Mangrove jack around bridge structure and boat moorings in the upper river. A few golden trevally and sizeable GT’s in the Kawana Canals around the pontoons. Bream, Gar and trevally around the boat moorings and rock walls. Flathead and whiting in the Basin.

Caloundra: Flathead in the blue hole and at the entrance to Coochin Creek. Whiting on the banks between Bullock Beach and Bells Creek. Flathead from Military jetty. Bream, flathead and trevally from near Gemini Towers. Jew and bigger bream at night in the deeper hole of the northern passage. Mud crabs in Coochin Creek and up the canals. Bream, trevally, Mangrove Jack and Cod all of size caught in the Pelican Waters canal.
