Local Fishing Report: Wednesday 2015-10-28


Conditions will become quite choppy with winds southeasterly 15 to 20 knot and seas 1 to 1.5 metres, increasing to 1.5 to 2 metres offshore south of Maroochydore. Yesterday morning's Trekka 2 charter to North Reef, with a good catch of squire, sweetlip, moses perch, venus tusk fish, coral bream and cobia. The Barwon Banks has also had pearl perch, moses perch, hussar, bonito and snapper.


Noosa: A few good tailor along Teewah as they disperse and migrate back to the southern waters after their spawn around Fraser Island. Try for some good whiting in the frying pan area. A big flathead and a nice big eye trevally caught and released at the river mouth on whitebait. A few big flathead, plenty of bream, whiting and moses perch in Weyba Creek. Good mangrove jack feeding in the deep holes in Noosa Sound and Woods Bay. A few sand crabs in the lower river and mud crabs in the Lakes.

Maroochydore: Tailor and Tarwhine from the river mouth. Several more trevally yesterday, tailor to 78cm, flathead, jacks and school jew in the Cod Hole, along with grunter bream, bream and Tarwhine . Plenty of average flathead in the lower river. Whiting in the lower reaches. Mangrove jack, flathead and trevally in Petrie creek and up past Bli Bli.

Kawana: Good trevally up to 2kg and bream from the boat mooring and in the Kawana canals. Flathead and whiting in the sand basin. Diamond and golden trevally around Minyama Island. Trevally and flathead from Mountain Creek and Bright water stretch. Mangrove jack in the middle river around the snaggy banks. Good catches of quality sand crabs in the lower reaches.

Caloundra: Tarwhine and whiting in the gutters from Currimundi to Wurtulla. Good flathead and trevally from Military jetty area. Trevally a few mangrove jack showing up in the canals and creeks and bream along The Boardwalk. A few good whiting starting to feed in the passage. Catches of sand crabs in the passage and muddies in the creeks.
