Local Fishing Report: Saturday 2015-10-17


More good offshore conditions today and tomorrow with winds easterly about 10 knots increasing to 10 to 15 knots in the morning. Seas are below 1 metre. Trekka 2 fished North Reef for pearl perch, striped sea perch, moses perch, venus tusk fish, sea bream, grass sweetlip and squire. Spanish mackerel at the Mooloolaba Blinker. Coral trout, snapper, moses perch and grassy sweetlip at Currimundi Reef, at Caloundra 12 and 8 Mile. Snapper, tusk fish, pig fish and sweetlip on Murphy's Reef. Snapper from Coolum reef.


Noosa: An 86cm greenback tailor was taken off Marcus Beach on Wednesday night. A few quality whiting to 36cm showing up in the lower river. Plenty of flathead in the 50 to 60 cm range and good trevally to 60cm in Woods Bay area. A few big flathead, plenty of bream, whiting, cod and moses perch in Weyba Creek. Good mangrove jack up to 1.6kg in the deep holes in Noosa Sound and Woods Bay. A few sand crabs in the lower river and mud crabs in the Lakes.

Maroochydore: There's dart, tarwine and the odd tailor along Maroochy North Shore. An 80cm+ hairtail was caught in the Cod Hole Thursday. The herring baitfish are schooling up around Chambers Island and the Cod hole. There's trevally to 2.9kg yesterday and school jew the day before in the Cod Hole. Flathead throughout the river at present. Cod, trevally and tailor in Maroochy Waters. Whiting early morning from Picnic Point and Black banks. Mangrove jack to 54cm in Petrie creek. Sand crabs in the lower river.

Kawana: Try for school mackerel along the rock walls at the Mooloolah River mouth. Good trevally up to 2kg from the boat mooring and bright water stretch. Flathead and whiting 32cm in the sand basin. Mangrove jack in the middle river around the snaggy banks. Good catches of quality sand crabs in the lower reaches of the Mooloolah River.

Caloundra: Tarwhine and whiting in the gutters from Currimundi to Wurtulla and worth a try for jew on top of the tide on the tip Bribie. Quality flathead in the 45 to 60cm range on the drop offs and sand banks in the top end of the Passage. Queenfish, trevally a few mangrove jack in the canals and creeks and bream along The Boardwalk. A few good whiting starting to feed in the passage. Catches of sand crabs in the passage and muddies in the creeks.
