Local Fishing Report: Tuesday 2015-12-15


Pretty good conditions today with winds southeasterly 10 to 15 knots tending easterly in the late evening. and seas below 1 metre. Conditions tomorrow will be similar with an easterly for most of the day around 10 knots and seas under 1 metre, There’s been Wahoo, blue fin tuna, a few spotty and Spanish mackerel showing up on many of the close in reefs, with a quality Spanish mackerel taken on yesterday morning's Cougar One charter to North Reef. Scarlet sea perch or large mouth nannygai on Chardon's Wide. Quality gold spot cod, pearl perch, mowong, sea bream, grass sweetlip, squire, moses perch and bonito at North Reef. The nine mile and twelve mile at Caloundra produced mackerel, cobia, sweetlip, tusk fish, hussar, squire, pearl perch and estuary cod while big marlin were spotted at the Inner Gneerings.


Noosa: Try for tailor and whiting along the Noosa north shore. A 43cm bream and 78cm flathead caught and released around Munna Point on whole prawn baits. There's been trevally and flathead caught on soft plastics in the late afternoon at Woods Bay. Weyba Creek is producing Moses perch, estuary cod, bream, whiting and flathead all in good numbers. Flathead, bream, tailor and trevally at the Noosa River mouth. A few sand and mud crabs in the mid to upper reaches.

Maroochydore: Try for jew along Maroochy Beach at night. Tarpon also on the bite near the Cod Hole. Still plenty of whiting in the early mornings around Picnic Point, Chambers Island and Channel Island. Bait fish in big numbers around Chambers Island and the Bli Bli bridge. Estuary cod, flathead, and mangrove jack in the Maroochy Waters canal. Flathead and bream in numbers in the mouth of Eudlo Creek with mangrove jack and gar in the upper reaches and through Petrie Creek. Mud crabs in the deeper holes of the middle and upper river with sand crabs in the lower reaches.

Kawana: A few big whiting and dart along the beaches. Whiting, trevally, bream and gar from the boat mooring and in the Kawana canals. Trevally along the rock walls around the river mouth. A few big flathead and whiting in the sand basin. Mangrove jack in the middle river with trevally, flathead and mangrove jack caught in Mountain Creek, in and around the bridge pylons and snaggy banks.

Caloundra: Dart and flathead along the beaches as well as trevally on the Happy Valley side of the Bar. Golden Beach and the mouth of Bells Creek both producing sizeable whiting, with flathead and jew in the drop offs and deeper holes around the Passage. Trevally in the canals and mangrove jack around the bridge pylons and rock walls.
