Local Fishing Report: Saturday 24/09/2011

Noosa: Snapper in the 3kg range as well as cobia and tuna on local reefs and some big snapper to 7kg out wide at the Banks. Whiting and some big flathead from the entrance to the river and in Woods Bay. Plenty of giant trevally and the odd jack in Woods Bay, around the Sheraton Bridge and in Weyba Creek. Flathead from the Tewantin Ski run.

Maroochydore: A 15kg Spanish mackerel was trolled up on a slow trolled XL pillie on the 12 mile. Plenty of fat whiting in the lower river with the biggest weighing 470g or 36cm in length. Also a few whiting being taken up to 30cm on Hawk surface poppers around Chambers Island. Flathead around 60cms at Bli Bli. Golden Trevally and Giant trevally to 1.8kg from the cod hole on Fridays afternoons incoming tide. Good sized dusky flathead in the lower river. Try for mangrove jack and jew in the middle reaches and mud crabs in the upper reaches.

Kawana:  Grass sweetlip to 3kg and small snapper on the gneerings. Snapper to 6kg on the 80m mark and trag jew on the Barwon banks. Good bream in the 800gm range around the moorings, a few good whiting showing up and the odd trevally off the rock wall. Dusky flathead to 70cm from the Mooloolaba rock wall.  Getting a  few big flathead around the Mooloolaba Spit area and  mud crabs feeding in the upper reaches.

Caloundra: School mackerel at dawn on the local reefs and a few good grass sweetlip from Brays Rock. Flathead and whiting from Golden Beach. Solid whiting on bait and lure from Golden Beach and Currimundi Lake.   Flathead, school jew and trevally in Pelican Waters canal.
