Local Fishing Report: Wednesday 16/3/2011

Noosa: The Tewantin stretch has been producing bream, cod and flathead. Mangrove jacks, trevally and tailor from Weyba creek and in Woods Bays. Whiting, bream flathead and the odd trevally between the mouth and Munna Point. Mud crabs in the canals and upper reaches.

Maroochydore: Whiting, tarwhine, dart and a 4kg Jew from Mudjimba beach. Mangrove Jack, trevally and tarpon around the Cod Hole on plastics during the incoming tide. Large flathead to 68cm from Picnic point on soft plastics during the outgoing tide. There are still plenty of Mud crabs in the middle reaches.

Kawana: Yellowtail Kingfish and grassy sweetlip from Murphy’s. Trevally from the rock walls and in the backend of the canals on poppers during dawn and dusk. Bream, tarwhine and whiting along Kawana beach. Mud crabs in the canals and upper reaches.

Caloundra: Mackerel and tuna from Currimundi reef. Dart, whiting and the odd tailor from Moffat beach and Happy Valley. Whiting from the mouth through to the Power boat club on live nippers . Bream and some nice flathead from the entrance of Bells Creek. Mud crabs in the deeper holes.

While fishing off Noosa, Garry Norris caught and released this juvenile sailfish which ate a small metal slug intended for tuna.
