LOCAL FISHING REPORT Sunday January 30, 2011
Noosa: Spanish mackerel, snapper, cobia and mahi mahi from Sunshine reef. Big blue fin and yellow fin tuna in the bay. Mangrove jack and thread fin salmon up to 5kg from Woods bay and the back of the sound. Large numbers of flathead from the mouth. Large numbers of dart from North shore. Good numbers of bass up to 42cm from lake McDonald.
Maroochydore: Spotty mackerel, squire and sweetlip from Old Woman island. Large Mangrove jack up to 2kg in the cod hole and up the creeks. Plenty of large flathead, bream and trevally around Goat and Channel island on bait and soft plastics. Whiting around Cotton Tree.
Kawana: Amberjack, snapper, Spanish mackerel and sweetlip from the banks. Golden and silver trevally from La Balsa park. Quality dart, trevally and tarwhine from Kawana Beach. Flathead and a few bream from McKenzie bridge. Mud crabs in the canals.
Caloundra: Grass sweetlip, snapper and Spanish mackerel from Brays Rock. Dart, whiting and tarwhine along Currimundi beach. Whiting and a few flathead from Currimundi lake. Trevally and bream in the canals. Mud crabs throughout the passage.

Josh Tarrant was fishing from a pontoon cruiser in the lower Maroochy River when he caught this 62cm dusky flathead.
