Local Fishing Report: Friday 01/02/2013

Noosa: You will have to get out early ahead of the strengthening winds and strong Southerly change to 30 knots by the afternoon.. Mud crabs throughout the river and canal systems. Whiting, flathead, bream and grunter between Tewantin and the river mouth. Jacks and flathead in Weyba Creek. Trevally on the dirty water mark on the making tide at the mouth.

Maroochydore: Grunter bream, bream and flathead in the cod hole. School jew in the deeper holes of the middle reaches. Whiting and grunter between Goat Island and the river mouth. Big Bream to 900g between Cornmeal creek and mouth. Mud crabs in the deeper channels throughout the river.

Kawana: Mud crabs from Mountain Creek, all of the canal systems and upper river. Bream and whiting from the sand basin. Good bream from the mooring and rock walls.

Caloundra: Mud crabs in the deeper channels of the passage and in Coochin Creek. Bream, grunter and whiting around the Caloundra end of the passage. A few GT's schooling up throughout the top end of the passage

Noosa; Lighter winds today and tomorrow but with a bit of swell, so take care offshore. Worth a try for mackerel and cobia and sweetlip on local reefs. Whiting, flathead and trevally in Weyba Creek. Whiting and golden trevally to 2kg in Woods bays. Mangrove jacks from Tewantin, and a few good muddies in the upper and middle reaches.
Maroochydore: Good dusky flathead caught and big ones released in the lower and middle reaches. Jacks to 2kg taken in the Creeks, from Bli Bli and the Bridge pylons. A few good grunter bream from Bli Bli and Petrie Creek. Mud crabs taken in the channels of the middle and upper reaches and up the creeks.
Kawana: The crews on Top Catch Charters fished Caloundra 12 Mile for Coral Trout to 5.5kg, nice sweetlip and gold spot wrass. A few whiting and dart along Kawana Beach. Whiting and flathead to 70cm from Mountain Creek. Jack in Kawana Waters and around McKenzies Bridge, Mountain Creek area. Bream on soft plastics around the moorings.
Caloundra; There has been a few catches of big flathead golden trevally and tarpon in the top end of the passage. Trevally, jack and mud crabs in the Pelican Waters Canals and Coochin Creek. Good whiting and plenty of average flathead with quite a few quality fish to 60 and 70cm in the top end of the Passage.

Noosa; The southerly wind will still be up to 20 to 25 knots in the morning but ease through the afternoon and tomorrow, so stick close in or in the bay for a while. Whiting, flathead and trevally in Weyba Creek. Whiting and golden trevally to 2kg in Woods bays. Mangrove jacks from Tewantin, and a few good muddies in the upper and middle reaches.

Whiting and golden trevally to 2kg in Woods bays. Mangrove jacks from Tewantin, and a few good muddies in the upper and middle reaches.

Noosa; Light winds early means get out and try for snapper, spotty and spanish mackerel and cobia on local reefs like Sunshine and North Reef. Whiting and dart off Teewah Beach Whiting, flathead and trevally in Weyba Creek. Whiting and golden trevally to 2kg in Woods bays. Mangrove jacks from Tewantin, and a few good muddies between the lakes.
Maroochydore: Good dusky flathead caught and released on the Maroochy North Shore to 80cm and 50cm in the Bli Bli area. A 2kg jack taken early yesterday morning, try in Petrie, Paynters Creek and around the motorway Bridge pylons. Been some good mud crabs taken in the middle and upper reaches.
Kawana: Light winds early means have a go for mackerel and cobia on local reefs. A few whiting and dart along Kawana Beach. Whiting from Mountain Creek. Jack in Kawana Waters and around McKenzies Bridge, Mountain Creek area. Bream on soft plastics around the moorings.
Caloundra; A few mackerel on 9 and 12 mile! There has been a few catches of golden trevally and tarpon in the top end of the passage. Trevally, jack and mud crabs in the Pelican Waters Canals and Coochin Creek. Good whiting and plenty of average flathead with quite a few quality fish to 60 and 70cm in the top end of the Passage.

Mick Robbie, had his best Christmas present ever, Yesterday morning, when he caught a 2kg Mangrove Jack in a secret spot somewhere up river , probably near Bli Bli. He was using fresh mullet fillets purchased at Swan Boat Hire.
